4. A brief summary of the item’s contents | Amulet drawn with a yantra diagram.
This fragmentary square piece of paper is drawn with a yantra diagram similar in composition to that of the tantra for the self-purification of the six classes of beings. It was folded twice into a square of half the former’s size, and then again once into a small rectangular format, possibly so as to be stored between the folios of a manuscript. The yantra diagram is composed of two concentric octagons following the lotus type and an outer range of flames, separated from each other by double black lines. While the inner octagon is blank, the outer one consists of eight trilobed lotus petals, which were not inscribed with a mantra in contrast with two other similar yantra diagrams in the collection. Outside burn flames, which represent wisdom and protect from negative forces. |
