9. Translation of colophon |
Having recited [the preceding], bestow the amrita empowerment. This ritual for liberation from curses and evil omens that is as precious as gold, is ended. Blessings. The I, the one named Khro bo, who have no fixed place to live, wrote this in Samling monastery of the Yang ston family, a holy place of practice. May this be of benefit for all sentient beings, and may they be freed from curses, from “empty calls” and from illnesses. |
10. General remarks |
The text belongs to the cycle of the Bon meditational deity sTag la me ’bar. As noted in the colophon, the paper is comparable to that of other texts from Samling. However, it not same as the another sTag la me ’bar text in the collection, which (according to the colophon) was copied by Tre ston phun tshog grags pa,. The term “empty call”, sbod (< ’bod) stong has been taken to me a synonym for skad stong, “echo,”, lit. “empty voice”; it is believed that responding to an empty voice calling one’s name will result in soul loss. |
